Peace talks begin today for a Cyprus solution

Leaders of the Greek and Turkish Cypriot communities, President Demetris Christofias and Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat, begin direct negotiations today aimed at a comprehensive settlement of the Cyprus problem.The aim of the peace talks is to reunify the island, divided since 1974 when Turkey invaded and occupied a third of the island in the north.See www.thecypriot.com and www.cyprusembassy.net for regular updates of Cyprus peace talks.
